America Bands Together
The Veterans of Foreign Wars "America Bands Together" patriotic program is expected to unite millions of Americans in publicly displaying their support of America's men and women in uniform by wearing the VFW's new commemorative bracelet. The wristband, engraved with the words "I Support Our Troops," is blood red, which symbolizes the sacrifices of all the nation's veterans who have helped keep America free.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, with its Ladies Auxiliary, includes 2.7 million members in approximately 9,500 posts worldwide.

The VFW's many proud accomplishments are recognized and felt by millions of Americans. They have included intense lobbying for a GI bill for the 20th century, generously donating more than $1 million each to the Vietnam, Korean, Women in Service to American and World War II memorials, leading the fight for compensation to veterans diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome, and continuously improving VA medical center services for our valiant women veterans.

The VFW has a rich tradition of enhancing the lives of millions through its numerous community service programs and special projects. VFW members and their Ladies Auxiliary annually contribute more than 13 million hours of volunteerism to the community, including participation in National Volunteer Week; Make A Difference Day, an annual celebration of neighbors helping neighbors; Connect America, a national initiative to build better communities; Join Hands Day, bringing youths and adults together to build better communities; and America's Promise -- the Alliance for Youth, bringing young volunteers to VA Medical Centers and veterans' homes.

In its never-ending mission of providing free phone cards to our nation's active-duty military personnel, raising $2.5 million in college scholarships to high school students every year, encouraging elevation of the Veterans Administration to the President's cabinet and raising money for the World War II Memorial, the VFW is there -- honoring the dead by helping the living.

In 2001, the VFW unveiled its tribute to service and country with its dedication of Centennial Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri.

The VFW continues to be the nation's strongest voice for veterans and a powerful catalyst for change in improving veterans' benefits.
